The tools of finance, when applied correctly, can be an enabler of social and environmental outcomes. This course is designed to give you the ability to build innovative financing strategies for start-ups and young enterprises. Funding for new ventures is moving from classic finance sources to innovative funding forms. When planning or managing a new company funding needs in different development stages are a permanent pain for founders and managers.  This course considers all the steps and tools form business idea creation to successful funding the venture through the first stages of the corporate life cycle.

Our 3-day Financing Innovations course covers all aspects of business financing for start-ups and young enterprises.

Lecturer

Simon Bracher, a dual British and South African citizen, is a professionally qualified Chartered Accountant with  South African, and English & Welsh Institutes. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa, a Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, a Postgraduate Diploma in Auditing from the University of South Africa, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Organizational Leadership from the University of Oxford.

Mr. Bracher has worked in a variety of industries and businesses of various sizes over the years, ranging from owner-managed businesses, right through to a global FTSE100 multinational. He has yet extensive experience in building organizational capability and a deep passion for developing people particularly in building finance and commercial competencies.

  • Make vs buy, insourcing vs outsourcing – considerations, options, benefits, and risks
  • The start-up growth cycle: investment, losses and cashflow
  • What’s your exit strategy and why this is important now

SECTION 2

Financing Possibilities of the Business Idea

  • The classical dilemma: Equity vs Debt Financing – which option, risks, costs
  • Innovative funding methods: crowdfunding, the donation model, microlending, angel investing, and more
  • Equity as reward, and considerations behind who should get and why
  • Cultural considerations of financing options
  • The ultimate aim: grow, list or sell – implications and considerations for each
  • Presentational implications

SECTION 3

Presenting the Business Idea – from full blown presentation to the elevator pitch

  • What is needed, what does good look like, and more importantly, what does bad look like
  • The business case template
  • Delivering a full-blown business case pitch – getting the balance right
