This course is designed to strengthen the student’s ability to communicate effectively in a range of professional and personal contexts. Specific emphasis is placed on the key elements of personal communication skills and the impacts of an individual’s personal characteristics on the communication process.  The course will focus on communication principles, theories and practical skills that are necessary for becoming an effective communicator.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Demonstrate understanding of basic communication theories and concepts
  • Develop skills essential for identifying organizational communication problems
  • Develop and sharpen active listening skills
  • Demonstrate understanding of the impact of culture on communication
  • Develop skills in communicating effectively with people who are difficult
  • Explore the relationships between management, leadership and communication
  • Send effective messages and provide appropriate feedback
  • Understand the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication
