Joe Kenel

Joe Kenel is a senior executive with more than 20 years of international experience spanning commodities trading, commercial strategy, operations, financing, risk management, and technology. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of enshift AG, a renewable energy infrastructure company based in Switzerland, where he leads operational development and contributes to financing, fundraising, and enterprise risk management.

Joe began his commodities career with Trafigura, progressing from Commodity Analyst to Metals Trader and later Head of Steel Trading in China. He subsequently held senior commercial positions at Nyrstar and Ameropa, where his responsibilities included international sales and procurement, digital strategy, and global product management. At Ameropa, he headed sulfuric acid trading and African sulfur distribution, growing the company’s acid trading book from approximately 60,000 to 500,000 metric tons. His career has provided extensive hands-on experience in physical commodities, trading, hedging, pricing, procurement, commercial strategy, and risk management.

He has also contributed to the commodities industry through elected roles on the London Metal Exchange (LME) Ferrous Management Committee and the European Sulphuric Acid Management Committee.

A Swiss-Canadian national, Joe holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Astrophysics from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and an Executive MBA from SBS Swiss Business School in Zurich.
