Experiential Learning in Action: From Business Idea to Market Success

How do business students learn entrepreneurship in a real-world environment?

At SBS Swiss Business School, students do more than study entrepreneurship, they experience it firsthand.

On June 5, SBS business students transformed their business ideas into real products and brought them directly to market at the Mall of Switzerland. The project provided hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, product development, customer engagement, sales, teamwork, and business planning, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in a real commercial setting.

After months of market research, product development, business planning, and preparation, three student teams launched their own sales stands and presented their products to the public. The event represented the culmination of an experiential learning project designed to bridge academic knowledge with practical business experience.

Entrepreneurship Education Beyond the Classroom

Today's employers and business leaders increasingly seek graduates who can apply knowledge, solve problems, collaborate effectively, and adapt to changing market conditions.

Throughout the project, students worked closely together to develop products, define market strategies, manage operations, and prepare for launch day. In the process, they strengthened key business and leadership skills, including communication, teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, customer engagement, and problem-solving.

The experience challenged students to think like entrepreneurs, make decisions under real-world conditions, and understand what it takes to bring a product from concept to customer.

The Mall of Switzerland event provided students with a unique opportunity to interact directly with customers and experience the realities of entrepreneurship.

Students promoted their products, answered customer questions, handled sales conversations, and gained valuable insights into consumer behavior and purchasing decisions. They experienced the challenges and rewards of operating a business in a live marketplace, where customer feedback and business performance are immediate and measurable.

Their dedication and preparation paid off, with many products successfully sold throughout the day.

Experiences like this help students build confidence, develop entrepreneurial thinking, and gain practical business experience that cannot be replicated through theory alone.
