Christina Merz

Lecturer

Ms. Bolt was born in New York City, USA, and raised bilingual in Switzerland.

After finishing high school Ms. Bolt attended ETH in Zurich and obtained a Master’s degree in Architecture. She then spent five years planning and designing buildings. In addition to working as an architect, she tutored friends and children who struggled with learning disabilities, finding appropriate ways to meet the specific needs of learners and awaken their interest in learning.

When offered a teaching position at a language school, Ms. Bolt acquired the needed certificates; SVEB l and SVEB ll (Certificate of the Swiss Federation for Adult Learning), the EUROLTA Certificate (European Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults) and the fide Certificate (Certificate of the Swiss Federation for Language Teaching to Immigrants). She moved away from designing buildings and began focusing instead on creating innovative teaching methods and learning approaches.

Ms. Bolt has taught English and German at several schools and in various settings; tailor-made courses and video conference lessons; small groups and large classes; to immigrants, young adults, journalists, business people and managers (UBS, Vistaprint, Coca Cola, Sulzer).

She holds examiner licenses telc English B1-B2 (CEFR), and telc German A1-B2 (CEFR), which enable her to evaluate the oral performance of candidates taking language exams, and she is an eduQua, qualified teacher.

Due to her interest in Educational Psychology, Ms. Bolt regularly participates in Confratute, the Summer Institute on Gifted Education, Enrichment Teaching and Learning, and Differentiated Instruction, at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT and she also attends conferences all over Switzerland.

In her spare time, she enjoys all kinds of outdoor sports and activities, especially hiking and cycling. She reads continuously and allocates time for world travel.
