is a University based on the Mid North and North coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is a dynamic regional University with over 14,000 students.

The University is the country’s seventh largest provider of distance education. It also has international students from more than 50 countries. More than 700 students are enrolled on-campus and with on-shore partners in Australia, with a further 1300 enrolled in overseas programs.

The business faculty of Southern Cross University is located in Coffs Harbour.Coffs Harbour is the commercial center of the Mid North Coast and Sydney is just one hour by air from the city’s international standard airport.

DBA Program Structure


4 Business Administration Units
Four  units from the current business postgraduate offerings, chosen in consultation with the DBA Director. These units are to be completed by candidates who do not have a credit average in a recognized MBA program.
 
   
4 DBA Preparatory Stage Units
 

The four research methods units are:

  1. Qualitative Research Methods
  2. Quantitative Research Methods
  3. Preliminary Literature Review
  4. Research Proposal
   
16 DBA Thesis Units

Completion of these units leads to DBA thesis:

Chapter 1 - Introduction
Chapter 2 - Literature Review
Chapter 3 - Research Methodology
Chapter 4 - Research Findings
Chapter 5 - Conclusions and Implications

Advanced Standing


Candidates can apply for advanced standing:

  • in Business Administration units when they have an MBA or other professional Masters degree with a business content (at credit average)
     
  • in Research Methods if they have completed a equivalent research units from another University
     
  • in further units ONLY if they have already started a postgraduate thesis at another university and want to transfer their work to the SCU DBA (considered on a case-by-case basis by the DBA Director) 

 

Admission Requirements  

 
Applicants seeking admission to the DBA program shall normally hold:

  • An MBA degree, or equivalent, from an approved University or equivalent;

or

  • Where other Masters degree level qualifications are held, applicants may be asked to complete a prescribed bridging program (normally designated courses from an MBA program)
     
  • Substantial (not less than five years) experience at executive/management level.
     
  • All DBA candidates must be able to demonstrate from their education and/or professional performance their potential to undertake research at a doctoral level. They should be able to show success in their career to date and document how the DBA program fits into their personal or career plans for the future.
     
  • All DBA candidates must have a sound command of the English language, spoken and written, meeting the criteria as prescribed below.
     
  • Applicants are required to have completed their previous Masters Degree in English; or submit proof of having achieved an IELTS test score of 7 or higher.
     
  • European or Swiss Citizenship required. If you do not possess a European or Swiss Citizenship, please refer to the SBS DBA.
All applicants must submit a 1000 word outline of their proposed research topic/idea as part of their admission application submission.

Where, during the application process, concerns are raised about the English proficiency of an applicant from either of the English language proficiency categories, or for applicants who do not meet either of these categories, the 500 word outline will be considered as an additional/alternative basis for assessment, as one of the conditions for acceptance into the program.
 

 Selection Process 


Considerable care is taken by SBS Swiss Business School in the selection of the D.B.A. candidates. In most cases, it will take up to one month to process each application.

Therefore, it is advisable for potential candidates to apply at least 8 weeks before the start of each intake.
