Dear DBA Candidate,
We welcome you to the DBA department of SBS Swiss Business School. SBS was the first school in Switzerland to offer a DBA program. Currently, we offer our candidates two options:
- The Southern Cross DBA, from the DBA leading Australian State University
- The SBS DBA, from SBS Swiss Business School
The DBA vs. Phd
The DBA differs from a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) through its focus on practice, policy or strategy within the context of the individual's workplace or another professional practice.
Both doctorates involve the development of substantial original work. However, a professional doctorate such as the DBA requires a different type of research development from that of the PhD. For a PhD, research needs to make a significant contribution to an area of knowledge. For the DBA, research needs to make a significant contribution to practice, policy or strategy. The research involved in a DBA is applicable to a business issue (or issues) and is carried out in the context of professional practice.

The SCU DBA is designed to address the needs of the mature professional manager who is looking for a:

The SBS DBA is designed to address the needs of the mature professional manager or consultant who:
- is looking for an internationally recognized research qualification
- Has a keen interest in the inner workings of organizations, as well as generating new managerial ideas and practices
- Wishes to apply advanced research techniques to issues of corporate concern.
SBS understands that candidates have business commitments and has designed programs that provide flexibility. Candidates are able to link their activities to 'real-world' situations by focusing their research on a current business issue within their organization or chosen industry.
